It seems that the bears have already felt the spring and woke up from their winter dormancy 🙂 at least our Oliver the bear, who has recently moved in to our home. He was made based on free crochet pattern found on the internet. He will be a gift for a newborn girl, but due to current situation on the world and #stayhome initiative, the bear decided to join us and stay home 🐻
The author of this crochet pattern is Nicole Megan Moore, who runs the blog Stuffed Hearts. It is available for free in English, so my blogpost is only a reference to her work. I will show you the pictures of my bear, based on Nicole’s pattern.
In connection with this project and thanks to Nicole, I explored the topic of crochet tricks that make amigurumi toys look nicer. Therefore, I will share them with you in today’s post. Enjoy!
The bear – what you’ll need?
- Free crochet pattern from Stuffed Hearts Yarn, I used: Alize Cotton Gold (55% cotton, 45% acrylic, 330 m / 100 gr), colors: 152 for the body, a little bit of black and white yarn for details, a little bit of yarn for scarf
- 3 mm hook
- Safe nose and/or safe eyes
- Yarn needle
Amigurumi the bear – step by step
The author of the pattern rightly pointed out that one of the most important thing is the way of crocheting. In amigurumi, the best idea is to use a cross single crochet stitch.
I do not want to copy-paste the pattern, so check out Nicole’s blog to see how to crochet this bear. Below you can find my pictures 😉🐻
Body (including legs and head)
To finish the body use the yarn needle and weave it through all remaining loops. Pull the yarn tight and the bump at the closed end will disappear, leaving a nice smooth finish. Cut and hide the yarn inside the head. If you prefer video tutorial you can watch this one.
