The birthday of my younger daughter was in lockdown, so we decided to bake and decorate the cake ourselves. I had been waiting for a unicorn cake for a while, so now I decided on it without hesitation.
In this post you will find instructions on how to make all fondant elements for unicorn cake. It turns out that kids not only love to eat fondant decorations, but it’s just as fun to make them.
However, when it comes to baking, I will not pretend that I am a baking specialist. I used recipes from specialized websites, however they are in Polish only 🙁

Fondant decorations for unicorn cake
Our cake decoration consisted of:
- Horn – instructions on how to do here
- Ears – instructions here on how to do
- Eyes – made in the form of black, thin rollers
- Rainbow mane – made in the form of colored rollers
- Pink flowers – instructions on how to do
As you can see in the photo, it is not a perfect performance, but for the first time it is good enough. Additionally, these got my kids acceptance, so I passed the most difficult test 🙂

- Fondant to cover the cake. Unfortunately, I had to skip this stage because I had too little white fondant.
- Golden food spray – to paint the horn.

Super tasty strawberry cake is the perfect base for a unicorn cake
My cake consists of 3 layers: sponge cake, strawberry cream and strawberry jelly. In my opinion, the jelly is a must-have, because kids love it 🙂 I used white chocolate ganache to cover the cake. Each recipe I used is available in Polish only.

Nothing gives more satisfaction than doing something yourself. I haven’t even thought about DIY as my hobby, I’ve just done different “projects” when it was needed. Sometimes it’s a disguise for the Masquerade Party in kindergarten. Another time, cutting out the pumpkin and baking the witch’s fingers for Haloween. Or simply organizing holiday souvenirs. Now I decided to share my realizations with you. Let’s go it together!
