My Wiktoria likes playing roles, that’s why we gave her wooden kitchen as a gift for her second birthday. I’ve planned to equip it solidly, but unfortunately it didn’t go any further. Recently, on Facebook group Przytul amigurumi 🙂 (for Polish speaking readers) a competition was announced. The main task is to crochet vegetables as a gift for Children’s Day. Therefore, every Saturday at 10 am there will be an information about vegetable to crochet. I ran out of excuses and went into action. A beetroot is playing the main role in the first task. Such a crochet vegetables are a great idea for a gift connected with the Montessori approach.

On the mentioned group there is a free crochet pattern available. In today’s post I’ll share with you the pattern created by me. For clarification – this is my first stand-alone crochet pattern. I probably did it quite well, because Wiki recognized the type of vegetable unmistakably 😀

What do you need to create crochet beetroot?

• Yarn, I used Gazzal Baby Cotton (60% cotton, 40% poliacrylic), color numbers: 3442 and 3449
• 2,5 mm hook
• Scissors
• Fiberfill
• knitting needle

The beetroot’s leaves

I started crocheting with a chain of 25 stitches for a small leaf and 30 for a large one. I used beetroot color yarn for this. Then I made about 5 to 10 single crochet in stitches starting from the second.

Then, after changing yarn color to green, I made sc, hdc, dc and tr alternately in a way that the leaf looks visually nice to me. It is not difficult and I recommend letting you bring your imagination 😉

Certainly, a noteworthy way of creating leaves is to make only sc around, and then sc, hdc, dc and tr alternately. As opposed to the first method, you can get slightly larger (wider) leaves.

Finally, sew the leaves and the bottom of the beetroot together using knitting needle.
