In today’s post, I will show you how to easily crochet a meaningful supplement to a Teacher’s Day gift. We are talking about a keychain with a little owl. Owls are perceived as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and power of the mind. That’s why they often appear in conjunction with the National Education Day.
The pattern is highly combined, I have modified it many times. Ultimately, however, I am very happy with the effect. See for yourself 😉
What will be needed to crochet owl?
- Free crochet pattern, highly combinated, that you can find below
- Free crochet pattern for wings and legs from cutiemestore
- Yarn, I used YarnArt Jeans with colors: dirty beige, light beige, mustard, white, black
- Hook with size 2,5 mm
- Fiberfill
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Ring with a chain to make a keychain, I bought on Allegro and they were shipped very fast
Owl – simple crochet pattern and step-by-step tutorial
Dictionary:
mr – magic ring
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – increase
dec – decrease
st – stitch
Head and body
Start with light beige yarn
1: 6 sc in MK [6]
2: inc*6 [12]
3: (sc, inc)*6 [18]
4: (2 sc, inc)*6 [24]
5: (3 sc, inc)*6 [30]
6: (4 sc, inc)*6 [36]
7-12: sc in each st [36]
13: (4 sc, dec)*6 [30]
14: (3 sc, dec)*6 [24]
15: (2 sc, dec)*6 [18]
Change yarn color to dirty beige.
16: (2 sc, inc)*6 [24]
17: (3 sc, inc )*6 [30]
18-21: sc in each st [30]
22: (3 sc, dec)*6 [24]
23: (2 sc, dec)*6 [18]
24: (sc, dec)*6 [12]
25: dec*6 [6]
Using yarn needle sew hole and hide remaining yarn inside.
Wings
I hadn’t idea for wings, so I used free crochet pattern from cutiemestore:
1: 6 in MR [6]
2: inc*6 [12]
3: (sc, inc)*2, sc, slst, 3 ch, slst in first ch, (slst, 5 ch, slst in first ch)*2, slst, 3 ch, slst in first ch, slst, sc, inc [15]
Fasten off, leave the long tail for sewing. Every owl needs two wings 🙂
Beak
Using mustard yarn crochet 2 ch, then 6 sc in first ch and 6 sc around. Sew beak to head using yarn needle.
Eyes
Reduce volume of the yarn dividing it into two. Use white yarn.
1: 5 in MR [5]
2: inc*5 [10]
3: (sc, inc)*5 [15]
Sew to the head close to each other. Using black yarn and yarn needle sew apple of the eye.
Ears
Use 2 cm yarn pieces and drag it in places where ears should be. Tie a not and comb. I dragged two pieces to make ears more visible.
Legs
Legs was crocheted based on free pattern from cutiemestore:
1: 6 in MR [6]
2: inc*2, (slst, 3 ch, continuing into second ch from hook crochet 2 slst)*3, inc [15]
Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing. Each owl needs two legs 🙂
Joining all elements
Wings and legs sew to owl’s body. On owl’s belly sew “v”.
Sew ring with chain to the owl’s head to make original keychain. Owl is ready! 🙂
